Phoenix, AZ The United States Marshals Service (USMS) High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force located and apprehended Mexico murder suspect Marlon Garcia early this morning at his place of employment in Phoenix. The Republic of Mexico charges Garcia with the death of Gloria Marquez, who was found dead on the side of a road in Chihuahua, Mexico. Authorities believe Garcia bludgeoned the woman to death with a rock on January 11, 2004, at approximately 1:00 am, outside a dance hall. Garcia was attending a social function with his wife and friends when he met the victim. According to witnesses, Garcia told his wife he was going to his vehicle and left the hall with Marquez. The two never returned. Garcias wife received a call at about 9:00 a.m. that morning from Garcia stating he had severely beaten someone and was leaving for Buckeye, AZ. Task Force members discovered Garcia was working as a forklift operator at the 3700 Block of W. Washington in Phoenix. Garcia was taken into custody and is pending extradition back to Mexico. United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of task force members, This type of coordination between the USMS HIDTA Task Force and Mexican officials proves to be an effective tool in locating Mexican fugitives who decide to make the United States their hideout. The United States HIDTA Task Force consists of deputies and officers from the U.S. Marshals, Department of Public Safety (DPS), Mesa P.D., Maricopa County Probation Office, U.S. Postal Inspector Service, and Chandler P.D.
