Pace, FL A man who was wanted by the Escambia County Sheriffs Office for escape was captured late tonight after a high speed chase that started in Escambia County and ended in Santa Rosa County. Edgar Boyd Farmer led Task Force Investigators and over two dozen marked units from both Escambia and Santa Rosa Sheriffs Offices on a car chase that often reached speeds over 90 mph before ditching the truck he was driving into the Escambia Bay at the Floridatown Boat Ramp. The truck went out into the bay about 50 feet before Farmer decided to bailout and try to wade out into the bay. Deputies from Both jurisdictions followed him into the icy water. Authorities also borrowed a small row boat from a homeowner nearby and eventually caught up with Farmer about 200 feet from the shore. He was arrested without further incident. The Task Force started their search yesterday when the 27 year-old Farmer had walked away from an Escambia County Sheriffs Office offsite work detail yesterday afternoon. Edgar was in jail on an original charge of Disorderly Conduct. At around 9 oclock Wednesday night, the Task Force received information that Farmer was in the area of Copter Road and Davis Highway in Pensacola. Reports were that he was seen driving a red pick-up truck with an Alabama license plate on it. At around 11 p.m., U.S. Marshals and Task Force investigators from Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) spotted the truck in the same area. When an Escambia County marked patrol car attempted to stop Farmer he immediately fled. Considering how chaotic these things can get it didnt, and we stuck with him right up until he drove into the water, said Task Force Coordinator Dominic Guadagnoli. It was teamwork by law enforcement and people from the community that put him behind bars tonight, said Guadagnoli. Farmer was brought to the Santa Rosa County jail and booked in. He will face additional charges in both Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties for Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and possibly DUI.
