Roosevelt Lake at 81% - Still Rising!

It seems everyone is not only talking about Roosevelt Lake, visitors are coming from near and far (I spoke with three couples from Colorado last week) to see this wonderful phenomena of nature. The rate at which the water level is increasing absolutely boggles the mind. If someone had told me last summer that Roosevelt Lake would be at 100% capacity by spring runoff or before, I'd have told them they were being overly optimistic.
All of the boat ramps are in the water, including Indian Point at the north end of the lake (never thought you'd see that one, did ya?) and Schoolhouse at the south end of Roosevelt. The water was 29 feet deep at the end of the Indian Point ramp as of February 25 and 25 feet deep at the end of the Schoolhouse ramp.
Roosevelt Lake currently has almost 19,000 surface acres of water. As you head north from Globe down the hill into Roosevelt on State Route 188, the view is the epithome of a picture postcard. I think my mouth dropped last week as I headed east down the Estates road and saw water stretching from the lake out in front of me.
I was recently told that the lower parking lot at the marina is partially underwater. All this water is also great news for all those avid fishermen (and women ) out there. Arizona Game and Fish is projecting a "new era of fishing at Rosy." The lake is making history and is expected to be the "hot spot for bass and crappie for at least the next several years."
The rain has also brought another treat to Arizona residents and visitors - an abundance of wildflowers. Check out page 5 of this issue for a listing of some of the areas already in bloom. Take a ride and enjoy!! Until next issue . . . take care.
