Snow in Roosevelt!

On Wednesday afternoon, March 8, 2006, it rained in Roosevelt. Much to the delight of many, it was a cloudy, gray and chilly day. Arizona finally received some much-needed moisture. According to an old saying, if March comes in like a lamb, it will go out like a lion. Mother Nature has a lot of catching up to do in the rain and snow department. On Saturday morning, March 11, I headed out at 7:30 a.m. for Phoenix. As I headed up State Route 188 out of Roosevelt toward Globe, I was both surprised and delighted to find snow shortly before the Young turnoff up to the top of the hill. I called my better half to share the good news and discovered there had been an accident at the Top of the World due to "black ice." I decided a quick trip to the local Walmart and Fry's in Globe was a safer, smarter bet. I left Globe around 9:30 or so, anxious to get back to the office, grab my digital camera and take some pictures of that lovely white blanket. Much to my chagrin, I crested the top of the hill only to find the beautiful blanket had been lifted almost completely from the ground. "Ok," I thought to myself, "I'm really going to have a hard time getting folks to believe it snowed so close to Roosevelt." Well, I guess Mother Nature was listening, because before all was said and done, the "fluffy white stuff" had blanketed 3-5 inches of Roosevelt, 8-9 inches in Globe and 8-9 inches in Punkin Center. It started snowing in Roosevelt around 10:10 a.m.(giving me loads of pictures for the website - see Community Info Section; "Snow Storm Pictures") and didn't quit til the wee hours of Sunday morning. Major highways were shut down, and power outages left their chilly mark on residents. Be careful what you wish for - you just may get it! . Until next issue . . . take care.
