Things are happening in Gila County! In the last issue, our front page story offered readers information about a casting call from Universal Pictures for a movie being filmed in Mesa from June through August of this year. In this issue, readers discover that movie making has moved even closer to home with Jakes Corner poised as the location for a film "made by Arizona people, about Arizona people for Arizona people." Director Jeff Santo is no stranger to the film making business. His most recent venture, This Old Cub, garnered numerous accolades from local and national media. Santos' upcoming movie, "The Corner," promises to keep viewers glued to their seats as the drama unfolds about a young man, his uncle and a town that bands together - something Jakes Corner is already well known for around these parts. Over the years, Jakes Corner Bar has held numerous fund raisers for those less fortunate and in need of help. We'll keep readers apprised of all the developments as this movie gets underway. In other local news, Phelps Dodge is doing a reclamation project in Miami. More details will follow in an upcoming issue in the near future. The holiday weekend is over and many are relaxing from their extended vacation. Why is it that we often have to recuperate from much-needed time off? The Tonto Basin News website has been astounding me with the number of hits it has received over the last three or four weeks. Just out of curiosity, I went to Google and typed in Tonto Basin News. It was the second sight to pop up from the search. Check it out! There's lots to see and do! Until next issue . . . take care.
