This publication received a "letter to the editor" from a "tattooed biker" who took offense to one of the jokes published in the "Just to make you smile" column in the September 20 issue.
For the record, we meant no disrespect to anyone, including bikers with tattoos. There are, in fact, a number of bikers, both with and without tattoos, who do indeed "volunteer hours of their own time and money" in support of worthwhile causes. We spoke with a number of motorcycle riders who found the joke "funny" and understood that much of the humor we read and listen to is based on someone's misfortune. If I censored each and every joke for the offense someone might take to a particular joke, there would be no "Just to make you smile" column.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Len Munsil, candidate for governor of Arizona. I found Mr. Munsil refreshingly qualified and honest, a candidate who exudes integrity and family values. His priorities as governor will focus on border issues, the education of our children, criminal justice and the health care system.
In light of the record of former Arizona governors, including Evan Mecham, who was impeached; Fife Symington who found himself in hot water over the Mercado project; and Napolitano, the current travesty in the governor's office, Arizona needs a visionary, not only with the background and education to follow through a demanding job, but someone with scruples who will make Arizona's residents proud to live and work here.
Until then . . . take care.
