PHOENIX, Ariz. Phoenix FBI Special Agent in Charge John E. Lewis has announced the arrest of a male/female bank robbery team responsible for five robberies in a twelve-day period in Phoenix and Mesa.
Sean Lee Hudson, 35, of Phoenix, and Amy Lee Chavez, 30, also of Phoenix, were arrested about an hour after the robbery of the Bank of America, 3246 East Bell Road, Phoenix, Arizona.
It is believed that Hudson entered the Bank of America, 3246 East Bell Road, Phoenix, at about 11:45 a.m., and presented the teller with a note, threatening to shoot people if money was not handed over to him. Hudson is alleged to have left the bank and gotten into a vehicle driven by Amy Lee Chavez.
About one hour after the robbery, detectives of the Phoenix Police Department and agents of the FBI effected the arrest of the two in a vehicle at their apartment complex, 4802 North 19th Avenue, Phoenix. Hudson had a .357 revolver with him,
and he tried to hide the weapon as the officers arrested him. Law enforcement recovered some of the robbery loot. More evidence may be uncovered as search warrants are being sought in connection with this robbery spree.
Investigators suspect that in addition to [this] robbery, Hudson and Chavez are responsible for the following additional bank robberies:
*Wells Fargo Bank, 6720 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona, on 03/12/2007.
*Wells Fargo Bank, 2727 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona, on 03/14/2007.
*Chase Bank, 6240 South Central Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona, on 03/16/2007.
*Wells Fargo Bank, 2525 West Guadalupe, Mesa, Arizona, on 03/19/2007.
It is yet to be determined if the duo will be charged federally or by the state. However, both are expected to be held in the Maricopa County Jail pending bank robbery charges being filed and court appearances being scheduled.
The Mesa Police Department and the Phoenix Police Department (including the Special Assignment Unit SAU) worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the FBI in bringing this robbery streak to an end.
"Tasks forces and team efforts are fixtures of the current law enforcement landscape," SAC Lewis said. "As with most complex cases, this series of bank robberies came to an end thanks in large part to the efforts of our partners in law enforcement," he added.
A criminal charge is an accusation only, and that guilt or innocence will be determined at a later date in a court of law. No assumption of guilt can be drawn pending such an outcome.
