Introduces legislation prohibiting foreign ownership or control of seaports and terminals
WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman J.D. Hayworth has introduced legislation (H.R. 4817) prohibiting entities owned or controlled by foreign governments from carrying out operations at seaports in the United States.
The American people have spoken loud and clear on this issue, said Hayworth. They dont just say ËœNo to the Dubai ports deal, they say ËœHell, no! My legislation reflects that sentiment.ÂÂÂ
Hayworths bill would not just apply to the Dubai Ports World deal, but would bar any foreign control or ownership of terminals at American seaports.
Our ports and our borders are the most unprotected fronts in the war on terror, said Hayworth. We simply cant take a chance in entrusting operations at these vital installations to anyone but Americans. An order issued by General George Washington at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War offers guidance to us today in the War on Terror: ËœLet none but Americans stand guard tonight.ÂÂÂ
