More Harry Mitchell lies about Hayworth;
this time Mitchell is contradicted by his own sourcing!
Scottsdale, AZ Is Harry Mitchell on a permanent vacation from the truth? Yesterday the Hayworth campaign exposed one Mitchell lie, and now today we have another one make that two.
On the Mitchell for Congress home page, the ethically-challenged Harry Mitchell declares:
J.D. is the top Congressional recipient of campaign contributions related to convicted felon and lobbyist Jack Abramoff. And he's refused to return or donate more than $150,000 he reported taking from those sources. [See Source 1 below.]
Lie and, well, lie. Harry Mitchell needs to get with the times. Apparently Mitchell is unaware that the Center for Responsive Politics revised their original report back in May to make it more accurate. [See Source 2 below for link.] The new results show Hayworth is not the top recipient as charged by Mitchell, not nearly so. In fact, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which has funneled thousands of dollars to Mitchell's campaign, has an amount almost four times higher than Congressman Hayworth's. Has Harry Mitchell demanded that the DCCC return those contributions? If not, why not? [See Source 3 below for link.]
Furthermore, the $150,000 figure is one Mitchell imported from his time as Chairman of the Arizona Democrat Party. It is demonstrably false. In fact, the Democrats own source citation proves it.
Here is the exact cite taken from the Arizona Democrat Party web site: [See: Abramoff network touches Ariz. lawmakers, The Arizona Republic, Jan. 4, 2006: By Hayworths calculations, a total of $150,000 came from sources affiliated with Abramoff at one time, but some of the donations were made before or after Abramoff came on the scene.ÂÂÂ]
You will notice, as stated in the source itself, that the calculation of $150,000 included contributions made by tribes before and after they were clients of Abramoffs. Indeed, when the Center for Responsive Politics refined their study one of the things they did was to remove contributions by tribes that were made when they were not clients of Abramoffs. When CRP did that, the Hayworth number shrank to almost a third of what Mitchell now claims. [See Source 2.]
I am sure that even with this irrefutable evidence, we can count on Harry Mitchell and the Democrats to continue spreading these falsehoods and lies, said Hayworth spokesman Brian Hummell. But we are putting the television stations, radio stations, and the print media on notice that they should not let Harry Mitchell get away with making accusations that he now knows are not true and further that any advertisements repeating these lies should be rejected by television and radio stations. Make no mistake, this campaign and our legal team will be extremely aggressive in this regard.ÂÂÂ
