Mobile Manager Brett Butler Resting Comfortably After Stroke

Matt Williams will serve as BayBears interim manager (PHOENIX) - Mobile BayBears manager Brett Butler suffered a mild stroke on Friday night and is resting comfortably in a hospital in Montgomery, AL. Current television analyst and pre-game host Matt Williams will take over as interim manager. Williams, a former Diamondbacks infielder, is in his third season as an analyst for the club's television pre-game show. Over his 17-year Major League career, Matt batted .268 with 378 home runs for the Giants, Indians and Diamondbacks, earning four Rawlings Gold Gloves at third base. He also played in three World Series, including the D-backs' seven-game win over the Yankees in 2001, and was an original Diamondback, after being acquired from Cleveland in a post-Expansion Draft trade. Butler is in his first season managing Mobile (AA) after holding the same position at Lancaster (A) in 2006. He served as the D-backs' first base coach in 2005 after one year managing the New York Mets' rookie-level team in the Gulf Coast League, leading them to the playoffs after a 36-24 regular season in 2004. Brett played 17 years in the Major Leagues, including time with the Braves, Indians, Giants, Dodgers and Mets. He batted .290 over 2,213 games and is one of only 26 players in Major League history to compile at least 500 stolen bases and 2,000 hits for a career. Butler was a member of the 1991 NL All-Star team and played in the 1982 NLCS with Atlanta, 1989 NLCS and World Series with San Francisco and the 1995 NLDS with Los Angeles.
