PHOENIX -- Ready for its ballpark debut on Monday, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers' new "D-backs Swing" is destined to become a classic, feet-stompin' and hand clappin' anthem for the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. The band was chosen by the team to create an upbeat song that will energize fans as much as the thrill surrounding the Diamondbacks' current run for the playoffs. "D-backs Swing" was introduced on the JumboTron at Chase Field when the team returned home to play the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 17. It became available for purchase for 99 cents on September 15 on the Peacemakers' Web site (www.azpeacemakers.com). Roger Clyne penned the song and was inspired by the sense of community building that the team brings to Phoenix, as well as the rest of the state. "So many Arizonans are from somewhere else. I love that natives and newcomers alike can all come together and rally around our own, great baseball team. I wanted the "D-backs Swing" to capture the camaraderie and excitement that is generated by the Arizona Diamondbacks," says Clyne. "All of the band members are D-backs fans and we have done several appearances at the games so this was a special opportunity for us." The "D-backs Swing" begins with a pounding intro and bass line and then jams right into the band's signature guitar licks. From there, the catchy lyrics take hold and it will likely be just one listen before thousands of fans in Chase Field are shouting the final chorus: "It's a fact, Jack, I back, you back, we back the D-backs!" The song was recorded during the band's recent break from their national tour and features Clyne's energetic vocals and the musical wizardry of drummer P.H. Naffah, guitarist Steve Larson and bass player Nick Scropos. The song will be a key component of the Diamondbacks games, especially in the coming weeks. "When the original idea to have a theme song was discussed, our first choice for a band was a no-brainer," said D-backs President Derrick Hall. "Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers are hometown favorites and we knew that they would create an amazing song that would combine fantastic music, spirited lyrics and be the perfect addition to our upcoming games. The 'D-backs Swing' is all that and more -- we're thrilled!" D-backs Swing Summer! And the gang's all here We've got green grass, red hots and ice-cold beer We're baseballs' faithful Diamondback Fans Backin' our home team Back in the stands Let's go ... Three up, three down Get the D-backs' swingin' and take it downtown where it's ... Going, going, going, gone! It's outta here, boys, now bring it on home It's a fact, Jack, I back, you back, we back the D-backs! 2007 Music and lyrics by Roger Clyne
