PHOENIX -- The newest "Diamonds Back" youth baseball facility will bear the name 'D-votion Field' after hundreds of Arizona Diamondbacks fans voted online for the name of the field. The facility, located in the Estrella community of Goodyear, will be dedicated in the name of D-backs fans, at the request of a player who donated $50,000 and wishes to remain anonymous. "We thank the fans who voted for our field name and couldn't agree more with their selection," said D-backs' President Derrick Hall. "Since this is a field for the fans, 'D-votion Field' is a perfect fit." The name comes from the team's 'D-votion fan experience' campaign which was launched during the 2007 season to identify and utilize the team's most die-hard and devoted fans. The "Diamonds Back" Field Building Program is currently constructing a $300,000 youth baseball facility that will be used by the Liberty School District, Estrella Mountain Elementary School, Estrella Youth Sports and Goodyear Little League. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 22. Since 2000, the Diamondbacks Foundation has built or refurbished 26 baseball fields as part of the "Diamonds Back" Field Building Program. With the aid of the "Diamonds Back" corporate sponsor, APS, local businesses, and monetary donations from individual players, this program allows children from across the state to play baseball and softball at quality facilities. The fields generally feature new lights, fencing and backstops, irrigation, dirtwork, grass and an electronic scoreboard. The locations of the fields are determined through a grant process. About the Diamondbacks Foundation: Established in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation focuses its efforts on three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare, and children's programs of all types, including education and youth baseball field development. Through fundraising activities, the team's charitable arm has donated more than $13 million to the Arizona community. The cornerstone of giving for the foundation is the "Diamonds Back" Field Building Program, which has built or refurbished 26 youth baseball fields in Arizona since 2000.
