ALSCO Opens New Eco-Friendly Facility in Phoenix

City of Phoenix officials and Alsco's board of directors today opened a new 80,000-square-foot facility at 4707 W. Camelback Road, retaining 120 jobs in Phoenix with plans to expand to 200 over the next few years. Alsco is a recognized industry leader investing in its future in Phoenix by retaining and adding jobs as well as adding more than $13 million in capital investments, said Councilman Claude Mattox, who represents District 5 where Alsco is located. When we work together with private industry, the end result is a growing economy with new jobs. By moving to this facility we can operate with much greater energy efficiency and with much less water, said Robert Steiner, co-chief executive officer, Alsco. In this plant, too, we can better deploy our most valuable resource, and that is the energy and enthusiasm of our employees. Alsco is a global provider of linen and uniforms leasing cleaning services with state-of-the-art systems that now use up to 63 percent less water than home laundering equipment and the new plant is capable of processing 100,000 pounds of laundry per shift. The city's Community and Economic Development Department assisted Alsco with Phoenix Workforce Connection services, development processes and coordination with the Police Department's SafeBiz program. Alsco is a family-owned and operated business that was recognized by the world-renowned Hohenstein Institute for having invented the linen and uniform rental industry when it was founded in 1889. The company provides garment and linen services to customers including restaurants, health care clinics, processing, repair and manufacturing facilities. Alsco is a worldwide company providing services to more than 140,000 customers through 67 processing facilities in North America, including 2,500 customers in Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, Show Low and Lake Havasu City.
