Dr. Edward B. Diethrich, world-renowned expert on cardiovascular medicine and founder of the Arizona Heart Institute, will present The Heart of the Matter, a discussion on the importance of a healthy heart and how to prevent heart and vascular disease, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Devonshire Senior Center Auditorium, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave.
Dr. Diethrich will discuss how the mysteries of the heart up to 60 years ago have been more clearly explained by modern science and technology. The risk factors responsible for heart disease, the genes that partially control a persons destiny and ones environment, will be presented along with some of the most advanced diagnostic tools and modern therapeutic methods.
Free educational materials will be distributed on a variety of topics including diet and health, heart disease, aneurysms and exercise. Several nurses from the Arizona Heart Institute will be available to answer questions and blood pressure checks will be provided.
Dr. Diethrich has practiced for more than 40 years and is regarded as one of the worlds pioneers in heart disease diagnosis and innovative cardiovascular treatments.
The free lecture, part of a series of heart-healthy workshops for older adults and the community, is presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department and the Arizona Heart Institute. Space in limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
