Phoenix, Arizona When the bright lights go on and the smoke starts to rise from the west end of the fairgrounds, it's a sign that action-packed competition is just beginning. The Arizona State Fair presents major league, edge-of-your-seat, adrenaline-filled events that are sure to entertain all ages. All Grandstand Arena events are free with the price of Fair admission. The lead-off event is Figure 8 Racing where crashes are inevitable and thrilling when cars race through the crossover in the Figure 8 races. This year, Fairgoers can treat themselves to three days of adrenaline-pumping race action in the Grandstand Arena as drivers test their navigation skills Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 at 7 p.m. & Sunday, October 14 at 5 p.m. Next up is Quarter Midget Racing. Dont let their size fool you these are serious contenders. Watch as Arizona racers ages 5 - 16 compete in quarter scale Midget race cars with 120-150cc engines on the dirt track in the Grandstand Wednesday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 31 at 4 p.m. You dont have to wait long for more family fun racing. Check out the BMX Freestyle Team on Thursday, October 18 & Friday, October 19 at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. This exciting and must-see-to-believe stunt show will leave you wanting more. If you want to step that up a notch and add some engines, catch the GCS Promotions FMX Show on Saturday, October 20 at 2 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. Watch as trained riders from here in Arizona perform freestyle stunts and tricks just like you see on X-Games! Riders tempt fate as they flip through the air, twist, and hang in this no holds barred, family friendly show. Its going to be a rodeo double-header. Leading the pack is the High School Rodeo on Thursday, October 25 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Members will compete in bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, tie-down and breakaway calf roping, barrel racing, pole bending, cutting and team roping. The cowboy or cowgirl and the animals used in the rodeo compete against themselves and the clock as much as they compete against each other. Then, get ready for the heavy hitters in the annual All-Indian Rodeo competitions on Friday, October 26 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m., and Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m., with finals at 6:30 p.m. Entries are open to all Native Americans with proof of tribal identification, awards are given to all-around champion, as well as the winner of each event, including bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback bronc, calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping. Mans best friends go the distance in the Arizona State Police K-9 Competition on Sunday, October 28, 11 a.m. 4 p.m. The Phoenix Police Department, in conjunction with the National Police Canine Association will be hosting the Arizona State Police K-9 Competition to test canine team's abilities in the areas of canine obedience, search techniques, obstacle maneuvering, and tactical responses. The 2012 Grandstand Arena line-up finishes up the Fair with a slam dunk, starting with Monster Trucks, Tuff Trucks & Trophy Karts. An adrenaline-filled night of entertainment featuring Monster Trucks, Tuff Trucks, and Trophy Karts in motion takes place Thursday, November 1 at 7 p.m. Even more out-of-control action and excitement can be found at Monster Games featuring Freestyle Monster Truck Action & Motor Home Demolition Derby highlighted by the RV Demolition Derby on Friday, November 2 & Saturday, November 3 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 4 at 5 p.m. Additional information on Grandstand Arena events can be found at www.azstatefair.com/grandstand. The 128th annual Arizona State Fair runs October 12 to November 4 (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) and hosts a variety of fun-filled attractions, activities and rides for all ages at its traditional location at 19th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix.
