$1.5 MILLION IN NARCOTICS SEIZED
TUCSON, AZ - Customs and Border Protection Officers at the ports of entry in Arizona had another weekend filled with activity, seizing more than 185 pounds of cocaine and 115 pounds of marijuana, all valued at more than $1,513,000.
On Saturday morning, officers at the Douglas port of entry arrested a 35-year-old man from Hermosillo after finding 47 pounds of cocaine hidden in a 2006 Jeep Liberty. When officers searching the vehicle found a trap door leading to a compartment in the floor, they discovered 24 packages of cocaine, worth $363,000. Later that afternoon, officers found 56 pounds of cocaine hidden in a compartment built into a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant. CBP officers arrested the driver, a 28-year-old man from Culiacan, Sinaloa, after discovering 21 packages of cocaine, worth $431,000. On Sunday evening, officers arrested a 20-year-old man who attempted to smuggle 65 pounds of marijuana into the country, hidden in a compartment built under the back seat of a Ford Taurus.
At around 12:30 on Friday, CBP officers at the San Luis port of entry arrested a 28-year-old woman from Yuma after finding more than 63 pounds of cocaine hidden in a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van she was driving. After a narcotics detector dog alerted to the presence of narcotics odor, CBP officers searched the vehicle and found 25 packages, worth $488,000 in a compartment built into the floor.
CBP officers at the Nogales port of entry arrested an 18-year-old woman from Nogales around noon on Sunday when they discovered almost 19 pounds of cocaine hidden in the Dodge sedan she was driving. Officers discovered almost $144,000 worth of cocaine after a narcotics detection dog was used to screen the vehicle. On Sunday afternoon, CBP officers arrested a 43-year-old man from Santa Ana, MX after stopping an attempt to smuggle more than 50 pounds of marijuana into the country hidden in the gas tank of a 1988 Jeep Cherokee.
