Representative-Elect Hoffman Files First-in-Nation Resolution Calling for a Constitutional Amendment Protecting Independence & Integrity of Supreme Court

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – State Representative-Elect Jake Hoffman today announced the pre-filing of HCR 2002, a concurrent resolution declaring the need to protect the integrity and independence of the United States Supreme Court. Representative-Elect Hoffman was joined by 40 Republican co-sponsors, including House Speaker Rusty Bowers, Senate President Karen Fann, House Majority Leader Ben Toma, Senate Majority Leader Rick Gray, House Majority Whip Leo Biasiucci, and House Speaker Pro Tempore Travis Grantham. “Democrats’ stated intentions to abuse our nation’s constitutional separation of powers by packing the Supreme Court are not merely an assault on the rule of law, they are a blatant attempt to politicize the world’s most respected legal body,” said Representative-Elect Hoffman. “Protecting the independence and integrity of the United States Supreme Court is an ethical and moral imperative that rises to a level of public policy importance rivaled by few other issues.” “The overwhelming majority of Arizonans, and Americans, oppose packing the court, which is why Arizona is leading the way as the first state in the nation to call for a constitutional amendment to set the number of Supreme Court justices at nine,” Hoffman continued. “The people of Arizona have long valued our nation’s founding principles of fair and equal justice under the law, and we will not allow radical Marxists like Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris to pervert the composition of our nation’s highest court.” Senate Majority Whip Sonny Borrelli, Representative-Elect Quang Nguyen, Senator-Elect TJ Shope, and Senator Vince Leach expressed their support and desire to co-sponsor, but were unable due to geographical distance, the holidays, and House rules requiring wet signatures for co-sponsorships. Representative-Elect Hoffman represents Arizona’s twelfth legislative district encompassing Gilbert & Queen Creek, as well as, parts of Pinal County.
