TONTO BASIN The Tonto Basin Ranger District is proposing to develop a management strategy for motorized vehicle use on national forest lands around Roosevelt, Arizona, and is seeking public input for the development of this proposal. The district will conduct an analysis of current motorized vehicle use in the area with particular emphasis on how to provide safe and legal off-highway vehicle transportation to connect Roosevelt Resort, Roosevelt Estates and other private land for recreational purposes. The Forest Service encourages the public to provide comments on this proposal. Comments received will help ensure that all issues are considered and addressed before moving forward with the project. Comments should be submitted by March 31, and should be specific about positive or negative concerns. Written comments should be sent to the Tonto Basin Ranger District, HC02, Box 4800, Roosevelt, Arizona 85545. The Forest Service will hold a public meeting to discuss these issues with residents March 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Roosevelt Baptist Church. All Roosevelt residents and other interested parties are invited. Contact Gary Smith, District Ranger, or Quentin Johnson, Recreation and Lands Officer, at the Tonto Basin Ranger Station for more information at (928) 467-3200.
